Battle Creek Bears Mascot

If your child will ride the bus and you’re unsure of the bus stop, please check online at https://www.mauryk12.org/ and under the Students/Parent menu, select Pupil Transportation. (Or just click here)

If you’re unable to find that information, contact the bus garage at 931-388-2432.

If your child is a car rider, please arrive between 7:00 and 7:30 each morning, and drive around to the back of the school outside the auxiliary gym. First-time students’ families may park in the front parking lot to escort their child to the front doors where our staff members will answer any questions you may have and hook up your kids with some EPIC mentors who will escort them into the building and show them where to go from there.

If you haven’t yet watched our virtual orientation / open house video with your child, please do so. It is posted on the BCMS YouTube channel here.

All of those involved in remote learning have received emails with directions about your first few days of online activity, along with directions regarding device check-out procedures for those who need them. If you have not received that information, please send an email to librarian Jesse Mensinger. If you have changed your mind about in-person or remote learning, please send an email to assistant principal Mike Kinnard.

All student schedules have been posted on ParentVue, and if you have any change requests, please email Will Penner. Students coming to school on Monday will be given paperwork to bring home to you regarding ParentVUE activation, in case you haven’t yet activated it.

Any 6th-8th grade girl who did not come to soccer tryouts last Monday needs to come this Monday in order to possibly make the team. You will need an up-to-date physical on file before you can try out. The team will practice each Monday through Friday after school until 4:45 p.m. Please bring cleats, tennis shoes, shin guards, socks, big water jug/bottle, and your own soccer ball. Parents, if you have not filled out the forms on Final Forms please do that ASAP. There will be a parent meeting on Wednesday at 4:45, and Coach Brady needs at least one parent for every player to attend the meeting.

All students interested in playing golf will meet in Coach Pollock’s room (2350) after school on Thursday.

Our first volleyball game of the season is at home against EA Cox at 4pm on Tuesday, followed by away games on Wednesday at Hampshire and Thursday at Culleoka. Our first football game is at home against EO Coffman at 6pm on Thursday—in fact, that’s our first game of any type on our new fields!

Here is a spirit wear order form, in case you would like to order any for BCMS students and family members.

All 8th graders will take a district-mandated math placement test this first Thursday. The test will have two parts: during part 1, students cannot use a calculator; during Part 2, students may use one. All math teachers are asking students to take a few minutes per day between now and then to practice multiplication fact fluency. We are including some links you can use to review at multiplication.com and flocabulary.com.

Please save and send to school your clean bottle caps and paper towel rolls for Mrs. White in the art department.

I know this has been long, but I saved the most important part for last. At Battle Creek Middle School we place a lot of emphasis on students’ social, emotional, and character development. We believe it is our responsibility to help students grow into kind and compassionate adults. To that end, we will continue our CharacterStrong program during our ACT classes first thing each morning. In these lessons, we will learn about and practice the eight essential character traits of kindness, patience, humility, respect, selflessness, forgiveness, honesty, and commitment. To learn more about this program, please see this letter in English or Spanish.

Have a terrific weekend, and we’ll see you Monday morning!

Go, Bears!
